Z-Tact started as a shared spreadsheet between a few friends comparing notes on bug-out bags, backyard solar setups, and which "tactical" gadgets were actually worth the money versus which were just shiny plastic. It grew into this.
We don't pretend the zombie angle is the point — it's the lens. A scenario where the power's out, the stores are empty, and help isn't coming for a while is a useful way to stress-test gear, and it's a lot more fun to read about than a spreadsheet. But everything we recommend has a second life: camping, road trips, hurricane season, or just trimming your monthly bills by going a little more off-grid.
What We Cover
- Cool Gadgets — portable power, lighting, comms, and the kind of tech that makes a bug-out bag actually useful.
- Survival Gear — water filtration, food storage, first aid, and the unglamorous stuff that matters most.
- Off-Grid Living & Homestead Savings — solar, rainwater, and the small changes that add up to a real dent in your bills.
- Home Fortification — practical, renter-friendly security upgrades.
How We Pick What to Feature
We look for gear with a strong track record across multiple independent reviews, a reasonable price-to-capability ratio, and — wherever possible — a use case that extends beyond "emergency only." If something only makes sense in a worst-case scenario, we say so. If it's also just a genuinely good flashlight, we say that too.
